ICM (Ingeniería Cruz Marqués) is a technical partner in the European AEGIR project, a Horizon Europe initiative that is demonstrating scalable, industrialised and digital solutions for deep energy renovation of buildings in four real demo sites located in Spain, France, Denmark and Romania.

Within this framework, ICM contributes its specialised know‑how in building services engineering, smart control and building automation during the prescription, conceptual design, advisory and contracting phases — without participating in the physical execution of works. The company helps ensure that the energy, comfort and digitalisation objectives of AEGIR are translated into robust, ready‑to‑tender technical solutions.

ICM’s role across the four AEGIR demo buildings

ICM provides cross‑cutting engineering support in all four demo buildings, focusing on three main technical layers:

  • Ventilation: assessment of the proposed ventilation concepts in each pilot, checking airflows, heat recovery strategies and operating modes against comfort, indoor air quality and energy performance targets.
  • Photovoltaics (PV): sizing and adaptation of PV systems to each building, balancing energy objectives with architectural constraints such as available surfaces, orientations, shading and routing of electrical infrastructure.
  • Control and automation: definition of integration requirements so that PV, HVAC and ventilation systems can be supervised and coordinated through a common control architecture and connected to the AEGIR digital ecosystem.

All these activities are carried out upstream, at specification and design level, helping project owners and design teams to make informed decisions before construction starts.

From concept to contracting: how ICM adds value

ICM’s work in AEGIR is structured along four complementary phases:

Prescription phase: Translation of AEGIR objectives into technical requirements for ventilation, PV and control systems, ensuring that energy efficiency, comfort and digitalisation goals are clearly reflected in the brief.

Conceptual phase: Support to define high‑level system concepts (ventilation strategies, PV layouts, control architecture), comparing options and identifying the most suitable solutions for each demo context.

Advisory phase: Technical advice to project owners, architects and engineering teams, validating assumptions, checking consistency between disciplines and aligning the different projects with the AEGIR renovation packages.

Contracting phase: Support in preparing tender documents and technical specifications, so that the defined solutions can be procured on the market with clear performance, interoperability and data‑integration requirements.

Focus on the Spanish demo: integrated technical support

In the Spanish demo, ICM plays a reinforced role, working closely with the teams in charge of the specific projects for PV, HVAC and automation. Its contribution includes:

  • Providing input data and boundary conditions (loads, operating schedules, comfort criteria, control needs) for the PV, HVAC and automation projects.
  • Reviewing the different project documents to ensure technical consistency between envelope, systems and control.
  • Helping to align the solution with AEGIR’s vision of a highly efficient, smart and user‑centric renovated building.

This upstream support maximises the chances that the final built solution will deliver the expected performance in terms of energy use, comfort and operational flexibility.

Smart control, domotics and BMS integration

A distinctive element of ICM’s contribution to AEGIR is its experience in home automation and Building Management Systems (BMS). The company helps to define an integration layer for building control that:

  • Harmonises room‑level devices (sensors, thermostats, local controllers) with central supervision.
  • Provides a clear structure of data points and commands for PV inverters, HVAC units and ventilation systems.
  • Facilitates the connection of building data to the AEGIR digital services, such as digital twins and KPI dashboards.

By working at specification level, ICM ensures that future contractors and technology suppliers can deliver systems that are not only efficient on their own, but also interoperable and ready for advanced digital operation.
